El Parque Natural del Alto Tajo está situado en el Sistema Ibérico, ocupando 176.265 hectáreas en la parte sur oriental de la provincia de Guadalajara y la nororiental de la provincia de Cuenca, en Castilla La Mancha.
El Parque Natural del Alto Tajo sistema de hoces fluviales más extenso de Castilla La Mancha, cuenta con gran diversidad geológica, climática y topográfica, con un excelente grado de conservación.
Además de los paisajes, los cañones y el propio Río Tajo hay que destacar como lugar de visita obligada en la zona la Laguna de Taravilla o Laguna de la Parra. Esta laguna se encuentra a 9 km de Taravilla y a 9 km del puente del Martinete. Está formada por el agua que recogen las montañas cercanas y que se ha ido acumulando en una zona de toberas que retienen el agua. Se trata de un lugar excelente para el baño y como curiosidad mencionar su profundidad de 13 metros.
Este Parque cuenta con una inmensa diversidad en flora y fauna de la que podemos destacar:
Fauna: buitre leonado, gavilane, águila perdicera y halcon peregrino, gato montes, nutria, turon,comadreja, liron, ardilla, lagarto ocelado y víbora hocicuda. En el interior del río se puede encontrar nueve clases de anfibios y siete especies autóctonas de peces.
Flora: pino silvestre, pino laricio, pino resinero, quejigo, encina, melojo, álamo negro, sauce, olmo, tilo, avellano, aligustre y abedul.
